What to Look For: Check that the property has well-placed lighting along pathways, driveways, and entry points. Motion-sensor lights are an added benefit for both security and convenience. Also, observe the lighting fixtures to ensure they are in good condition and provide sufficient illumination.

2. Non-Slip Surfaces

Why They’re Crucial: Icy and wet conditions can make outdoor surfaces slippery and hazardous.

What to Look For: Look for non-slip treatments on steps, decks, and walkways. These can include textured surfaces, anti-slip strips, or mats. If there’s snow on the ground, it may be difficult to see these features, so don’t hesitate to ask the seller or agent.
