Homebuyer Tip #50: Outdoor Games and Equipment

Posted on May 13, 2023 by Laura Sinclair

Playing outdoor games is not only a great way to have fun but also a fantastic opportunity to stay active and enjoy the fresh air. Whether you’re planning a family gathering, hosting a picnic, or simply looking to have a good time with friends, having the right games and equipment can make all the difference. In this article, we will explore some of the most popular outdoor games and the essential equipment you need to play them.

Frisbee

Frisbee is a classic outdoor game that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. All you need is a Frisbee disc, and you’re ready to go. The game can be as simple as throwing the disc back and forth, or you can create more complex games like Ultimate Frisbee, where teams compete to score points by passing the disc into an end zone.

Bocce Ball

Bocce ball is a strategic and engaging game that originated in ancient Rome. It is played with a set of balls, usually made of wood or synthetic materials, and a smaller target ball called the pallino. The objective is to get your balls as close as possible to the pallino while outscoring your opponents. Bocce ball sets can be easily purchased and come with everything you need to start playing.

Cornhole

Cornhole has gained tremendous popularity in recent years, especially during outdoor gatherings and tailgating events. The game involves throwing bean bags onto a slanted board with a hole in it. Players score points by successfully landing their bags on the board or, even better, getting them through the hole. Cornhole sets are readily available in stores or can be made at home with some basic woodworking skills.

Croquet

Croquet is a leisurely and strategic game that requires accuracy and finesse. It involves hitting wooden balls with mallets through a series of hoops embedded in the ground. The objective is to be the first player or team to complete the course in the fewest number of strokes. Croquet sets are widely available and typically include mallets, balls, hoops, and stakes.

Volleyball

Volleyball is a fast-paced team sport that can be enjoyed on the beach, in the backyard, or at a local park. To play volleyball, you’ll need a volleyball and a net. You can set up a portable net system that can be easily assembled and disassembled for convenience. Volleyball is not only a great physical workout but also a fantastic way to enhance teamwork and communication skills.

Badminton

Badminton is a popular racket sport that combines elements of tennis and volleyball. The game is played with a lightweight shuttlecock and rackets. You can set up a badminton court in your backyard or find public courts in parks or recreation areas. Badminton sets often include rackets, shuttlecocks, and a net.

Horseshoes

Horseshoes is a traditional outdoor game that tests your throwing accuracy. The objective is to throw horseshoes and try to get them as close as possible to a metal stake driven into the ground. Horseshoe sets typically include four horseshoes and two stakes, making it easy to set up a game wherever you have space.

Outdoor Games and Equipment

These are just a few examples of the many outdoor games available. The equipment needed for each game is relatively easy to obtain and often comes in convenient sets. Playing outdoor games not only provides entertainment but also promotes physical activity and social interaction. So, gather your friends and family, head outside, and have a blast playing these exciting games with the right equipment.
